Overview

What light removals / man & van covers in Manchester

What the service is

A two-person crew with a large van for moving bulky items and outdoor goods across Greater Manchester. This is a light removals service, furniture, appliances, garden items, equipment and single-room moves, rather than a full household relocation with packing services.

Who it's for

People moving a few large items rather than a whole house, buyers collecting furniture from a marketplace seller, students and tenants moving between flats, landlords moving furniture between properties, and businesses shifting equipment between sites.

When it's needed

When the item is too big for a car and hiring a van means finding a second pair of hands, when a purchase needs collecting by a deadline, or when a small move needs doing outside working hours.

Why professional help matters

The van is only half the job. Getting a wardrobe down a stairwell without damaging it or the wall is the other half, and doing that alone is how people get injured and how deposits get lost. Two experienced people, a properly sized van and a fixed price removes both problems.

Leave it and it costs more

What happens if it’s left

Small moves get treated as easy and then quietly go wrong, usually in the doorway.

  • Van hire priced for a day turns into two trips, fuel, and a wasted Saturday because the first load did not fit.
  • Furniture damaged in transit without proper loading: one scratched table can cost more than the move.
  • Property damage in stairwells and doorways, which comes straight off a deposit or lands on a landlord.
  • Manual handling injuries from lifting appliances and mattresses without the right technique or the right number of people.
  • Collection deadlines missed on marketplace purchases, so the seller sells it to somebody else.

Common mistakes we see

  • Underestimating volume: most people need roughly twice the van space they think.
  • Booking a one-man service for items that physically require two people.
  • Not checking parking and access at both ends, which is where small moves lose most of their time.
  • Assuming a removals firm will also take away the old furniture; ours can, in the same visit.

Our process

How the job runs, start to finish

  1. 1

    Call or send photos

Tell us the postcode and what needs shifting, or send a couple of photographs. We work out the volume and access from that: no waiting on a surveyor.

  2. 2

    Fixed price agreed

You get one clear figure before anything is booked, based on volume, weight and access. It does not change unless you add to the job.

  3. 3

    Time slot confirmed

We confirm a day and a time window, including evenings and weekends, and ring you before we set off so you are not waiting in.

  4. 4

    Cleared and swept

Our crew does all the carrying and loading, segregates timber and metal for recycling, and brushes the area through before we leave.

  5. 5

    Legally disposed, documented

The load goes to a licensed commercial waste facility. Pay by card, cash or transfer, and ask for a waste transfer note for your records.

What you get

Why customers book light removals / man & van with Fisher

Two people as standard

Everything is loaded and carried by a two-man crew, so heavy and awkward items are handled safely rather than dragged.

One van, one trip

A 12–14 cubic yard van covers most small moves in a single load, which is faster and cheaper than repeated trips in a hire van.

Fixed price, not an hourly meter

You get one figure for the job based on volume, distance and access, agreed before we start.

Times that suit you

7am to 10pm, seven days a week, so moves can happen in an evening or at a weekend without booking time off work.

Move and clear in one visit

Because we are a registered waste carrier as well, the old furniture can be taken away on the same visit as the new one arriving; something a pure removals firm cannot legally do.

Insured while we work

Fisher Group Services Ltd carries public liability insurance, which matters when work is happening in communal buildings and managed properties.

In detail

Light Removals / Man & Van in Manchester: the detail that matters

What we move

Bulky and outdoor goods are our core, and single-room moves fit comfortably in one load.

  • Sofas, beds, wardrobes, tables and general furniture
  • White goods and large appliances
  • Garden furniture, planters, BBQs and outdoor equipment
  • Marketplace, auction and second-hand purchases needing collection
  • Single-room and studio moves between properties
  • Tools, stock, equipment and light business items between sites

What this service is not

We are straight about the limits rather than overselling. This is light removals: we do not provide packing services, packing materials, piano or safe specialists, or long-distance national relocations. If you need a full four-bedroom household move with a wardrobe service, a dedicated removals company is the right call and we will say so. For most small moves, that level of service is not needed and not worth paying for.

Access, parking and timing at both ends

Small moves live or die on access. We check the collection and delivery ends before quoting: floor level, lift availability, stair width, parking restrictions and the carry distance from the van. That is what determines the crew time, and knowing it up front is what lets us hold a fixed price rather than adding to it on the day.

Moving and disposal in the same booking

The most useful combination we offer is a move plus a clearance. New sofa going in, old sofa going out, both on the same visit, one price, and the old one disposed of legally through a licensed facility with a waste transfer note available. Removals firms cannot legally carry your waste without a carrier registration; we hold one, which is why this works.

Domestic and light commercial moves

Domestic work is usually a single room, a flat move or a furniture collection. Light commercial work is equipment, stock or office furniture moved between sites, often outside opening hours and invoiced to the business. Both are priced the same way: volume, distance, access and crew time.

Common questions

Light Removals / Man & Van questions, answered straight

How much does a man and van cost in Manchester?

It is a fixed price based on volume, distance and access rather than an hourly rate. Small moves start around our £60 minimum job value; a full 12–14 cubic yard van load of moving work is quoted individually. Tell us both addresses and what is moving and we will give you the figure.

How many people come?

Two. Everything on this service is a two-man crew so items are lifted safely.

How big is the van?

Roughly 12–14 cubic yards, comparable in capacity to a large builders' skip. That covers most single-room moves in one load.

Can you take my old furniture away at the same time?

Yes, and this is the main advantage of using us. We are a registered waste carrier, so the old items can be removed and legally disposed of on the same visit.

Do you do full house removals?

No. This is a light removals service for bulky items and small moves. For a full household relocation with packing, a dedicated removals company is the right choice.

Do you provide packing materials?

No, we do not supply packing services or materials. Items should be ready to load; we handle the lifting, loading and securing in the van.

Can you collect a purchase from a seller for me?

Yes, collections from marketplace and second-hand sellers across Greater Manchester are a common booking. We just need the collection address and a contact.

Are you insured?

Yes, Fisher Group Services Ltd holds public liability insurance.

Can you move at short notice or in the evening?

Often yes. We work 7am to 10pm, seven days a week, and same-day availability depends on the day's schedule; call and we will tell you honestly.

How do I pay?

Card, cash or bank transfer on completion.
